Immunizations

Students enrolled at Wheeler Avenue Christian Academy must meet the immunization requirements set by the Texas Department of Health. Texas State Law requires all students must have current immunization records on file. Help us keep our records up to date by bringing in a copy of your child’s immunization record every time he or she receives additional immunizations.
Medications

Prescription medication can only be administered by the Director of or Administrative Assistant. If your child has prescription medication he or she needs to take, please fill out a medical authorization form, that must be renewed every week, and bring the medication in its original container with instructions. Non-prescription medicine cannot by administered by the school.
Illnesses & Absences

If your child is absent from school because of a communicable disease or is absent for five or more consecutive days due to any illness, you must present a doctor’s certificate of recovery before your child can return to class.

Under certain circumstances, you will be asked to pick up your child from school, including the following:
  • If your child has a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher.
  • If your child has uncontrolled diarrhea, three or more loose stools in one day.
  • If your child has vomited two or more times in one day.
  • If your child has pink eye or another eye infection.
  • If your child begins antibiotic treatment.
If your child has been diagnosed with a contagious disease, please notify us as soon as possible. We require a doctor’s note in the following cases:
  • Head lice
  • Inflamed throat irritation
  • Rashes or wheezing
  • Excessive coughing or sneezing
If we observe any of the above symptoms while your child is in school, we will contact you and ask you to pick up your child immediately to avoid infecting other students.

If your child is injured at school or during a school field trip, he or she is covered by our accident insurance policy.

We have office personnel and nurse volunteers available to treat minor injuries during school hours. If your child needs immediate medical attention, Wheeler Avenue Christian Academy will take the necessary actions to supply emergency medical services. If it is necessary to call 911, parents are solely responsible for the expenses incurred in seeking emergency medical treatment for their child.
